Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Dallas Cowboys Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 8 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/07/2026, 12:55 AM ET

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM ET with national coverage on Prime Video. Tampa Bay enters Week 5 at 0-4 after suffering a 17-14 loss to Green Bay, while Dallas improved to 2-2 with a 34-30 road victory over Houston. The current market has Dallas favored by as many as 9.5 points, with the total sitting at 47.5. Be sure to check out our free NFL picks for more NFL predictions throughout the season.

Tampa Bay Has Been Better Than Its 0-4 Record Suggests

There isn't much positive about an 0-4 start, but Tampa Bay hasn't been getting blown off the field every week. The Buccaneers lost their first four games by a combined 20 points, and Sunday's 17-14 defeat against Green Bay was another example. Tampa Bay had an opportunity late but couldn't finish the comeback, leaving the Buccaneers still searching for their first victory.

The offense is the larger concern entering Thursday. Tampa Bay is averaging only 19.0 points and 278.3 yards per game, including 172.3 passing yards and 106.0 rushing yards. The Buccaneers are also dealing with a difficult quarterback situation on a short week, with their rookie signal-caller expected to make his second consecutive start after taking over for the injured regular starter.

Defensively, Tampa Bay has actually provided reasons for optimism. The Buccaneers are allowing 282.8 yards per game, including just 78.5 rushing yards. They held Green Bay to 17 points Sunday and have enough defensive ability to prevent Dallas from simply turning Thursday night into a walkthrough. The problem is whether the offense can score enough to keep the defense from spending most of the night protecting a small margin for error.

Dallas Offense Is Carrying the Cowboys

Dallas enters Thursday with considerably more momentum after going into Houston and earning a 34-30 victory. The Cowboys improved to 2-2 and have now scored at least 30 points in three of their first four games. Their 30.5 points per game rank among the best offensive marks in the league entering Week 5.

The Cowboys are averaging 347.5 total yards per game, including 258.0 through the air. Dallas has consistently been able to move the football, and that gives the Cowboys an obvious advantage against a Tampa Bay offense struggling to generate points. If Dallas gets into the upper 20s again, the Buccaneers could have difficulty keeping pace.

The concern comes on the other side. Dallas is allowing 28.0 points per game along with 239.3 passing yards and 150.3 rushing yards. The Cowboys have also produced only four sacks and have yet to record an interception. Dallas deserves to be favored at home, but laying close to double digits with a defense allowing that much production creates considerably more risk.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Dallas Cowboys Picks and Predictions

Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers +9.5

Tampa Bay +9.5 is the side pick. Dallas is clearly the better team right now, but those are two different questions when the spread reaches this range. The Buccaneers have lost all four games, yet the combined margin across those defeats is only 20 points. Tampa Bay also just held Green Bay to 17 and is allowing fewer than 80 rushing yards per game. Dallas should win, but its defense is allowing 28 points and 389.5 combined passing and rushing yards per game. That's enough defensive vulnerability for Tampa Bay to hang around. At anything approaching double digits, I'll take the points rather than asking Dallas to win comfortably on a short week.

Pick: Over 47.5

The Over 47.5 is the total pick. Tampa Bay's offensive struggles make this uncomfortable, but Dallas has scored 30.5 points per game while allowing 28.0. Three of the Cowboys' first four games have featured at least 60 combined points, and Sunday's 34-30 victory over Houston was another reminder of how Dallas games can develop. Tampa Bay doesn't need to suddenly become an elite offense to push this Over. If Dallas reaches 30 again, something like 30-20 or 31-20 gets us there. The Cowboys' combination of offensive production and defensive vulnerability makes the Over worth backing.

Final Picks: Tampa Bay Buccaneers +9.5 and Over 47.5
