By: Kim Smith Published 10/09/2026, 12:00 AM ET

The Anaheim Ducks visit the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Friday, October 9, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET. Anaheim enters at 2-1 following a 5-2 loss to Edmonton on Wednesday, while Winnipeg comes into the matchup at 3-0-1 after defeating Colorado 3-2 for its third consecutive victory. The Jets are listed around -125 on the moneyline at DraftKings, with the Ducks around +110 to +115. The total is listed at 6.5 goals at DraftKings, although some market listings show 5.5. Anaheim Ducks Need to Recover From Wednesday’s Collapse

Anaheim opened the season with considerable promise, winning its first two games before suffering a disappointing 5-2 defeat against Edmonton on Wednesday. The Ducks defeated Vegas 4-3 in their opener before earning a 3-2 overtime victory over Florida, demonstrating the ability to compete against talented opponents. Their performance against Edmonton started encouragingly, but a disastrous second period ultimately prevented Anaheim from remaining undefeated.

The Ducks jumped ahead 2-0 against the Oilers and appeared capable of controlling the contest through the opening period. However, Edmonton responded with five unanswered goals in the second, turning what had been a promising performance into a frustrating defeat. Lukas Dostal struggled during that stretch, allowing five goals on just 17 shots before being replaced. Anaheim’s inability to halt Edmonton’s momentum exposed the defensive difficulties that can arise when the Ducks lose control of the puck.

There have been positive developments offensively despite Wednesday’s result. Beckett Sennecke scored twice on the power play against Edmonton, while Cutter Gauthier produced two goals and an assist in the earlier victory over Florida. Leo Carlsson has also been influential in creating scoring opportunities, collecting three assists against the Panthers. Anaheim possesses enough young offensive talent to challenge Winnipeg, particularly if the Ducks can draw penalties and capitalize with the man advantage.

The challenge Friday will be maintaining that offensive confidence without sacrificing defensive responsibility. Winnipeg has demonstrated an ability to win close games and capitalize on opposing mistakes, making another prolonged defensive breakdown particularly dangerous. Anaheim needs to establish a stronger defensive presence and avoid allowing the Jets to control possession for extended stretches. The Ducks have shown enough offensive ability to remain competitive, but their performance against Edmonton makes consistency a legitimate concern.

Winnipeg Jets Have Found Ways to Win Close Games

Winnipeg enters Friday playing some of the most encouraging hockey in the early portion of the season. The Jets have won three consecutive games after opening with a 4-3 overtime loss to Boston, and their recent results demonstrate an ability to remain competitive in difficult situations. Winnipeg defeated Detroit 3-2, followed with another 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh, and then earned a 3-2 win against Colorado on Wednesday.

The victory over Colorado was particularly impressive because Winnipeg had to withstand considerable offensive pressure. The Avalanche outshot the Jets 34-19, but Stuart Skinner delivered a strong performance with 32 saves. Kyle Connor scored twice, including the winning goal with approximately one minute remaining in regulation. Winnipeg didn’t dominate possession, but it capitalized when opportunities appeared and received the goaltending necessary to remain within striking distance.

Connor has been particularly important during Winnipeg’s winning streak. He scored two power-play goals against Detroit before delivering another two-goal performance against Colorado. Cole Perfetti has also provided meaningful offensive contributions, while Mark Scheifele continues to play an important role in generating opportunities. The Jets have scored 12 goals through four games, which reflects a reasonably balanced attack rather than an overwhelming offensive approach.

There are still questions that Winnipeg needs to address. Being outshot by such a significant margin against Colorado isn’t a sustainable formula for success, even when the goaltending is performing well. The Jets also lost defenseman Josh Morrissey to an upper-body injury during Wednesday’s contest, creating uncertainty about their defensive depth heading into Friday. Winnipeg has demonstrated resilience and an ability to win tight games, but Anaheim possesses enough offensive talent to make another low-margin contest difficult.

Anaheim Ducks vs Winnipeg Jets Picks and Predictions

Pick: Winnipeg Jets Moneyline (-125)

I’m taking Winnipeg to extend its winning streak at home. The Jets have won three consecutive games, including victories over Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Colorado, and they’ve demonstrated an ability to handle difficult situations without needing overwhelming offensive production. Connor has been particularly dangerous, while Winnipeg’s goaltending has helped compensate for periods when the opposition controls possession. Anaheim has enough young offensive talent to cause problems, but Wednesday’s collapse against Edmonton raises legitimate concerns about its defensive reliability. The Jets should benefit from playing at home and have shown greater consistency through their opening four games. At around -125, Winnipeg offers a reasonable price against a Ducks team still searching for defensive stability.

Pick: Under 6.5 Goals

The Under 6.5 is the total pick. Winnipeg has won its last three games by identical 3-2 scores, suggesting that the Jets have become comfortable competing in relatively controlled, close contests. Anaheim’s 5-2 loss to Edmonton is concerning defensively, but that performance was heavily influenced by a disastrous second period rather than sustained problems throughout the entire game. The Ducks also played a 3-2 overtime contest against Florida, demonstrating their ability to compete in lower-scoring situations. Winnipeg should look to establish a more disciplined defensive approach after allowing 39 shots against Colorado, while Anaheim has every reason to emphasize defensive responsibility following Wednesday’s collapse. Six goals or fewer is a reasonable expectation, with a 3-2 or 4-2 Winnipeg victory fitting the matchup.
