Carolina Hurricanes vs Montreal Canadiens Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 6 2026
The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre in Montreal on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET. Carolina finally broke into the win column Saturday with a 3-2 overtime victory over Philadelphia, while Montreal is coming off one of the wildest games of the young season, rallying from four goals down before falling 6-5 in overtime to Pittsburgh. Carolina Finally Gets Rewarded
The Hurricanes opened their Stanley Cup defense with a frustrating overtime loss to Florida on banner night, but Saturday’s win over Philadelphia was a much more familiar Carolina performance. The Hurricanes stayed with the game and eventually escaped with the 3-2 overtime victory rather than allowing another close one to slip away.
That’s an encouraging development this early in the season. Carolina doesn’t need to reinvent itself after winning the Cup. The Hurricanes want to pressure the puck, spend long stretches in the offensive zone and make opponents work for clean exits. That style becomes particularly interesting against a Montreal team coming off a game that became completely chaotic.
Carolina should want considerably more structure than Montreal saw Saturday. If the Hurricanes can turn this into a possession game rather than a track meet, their ability to wear down the Canadiens over three periods gives them the edge.

Montreal Has Been Anything but Boring
Montreal opened the season with an impressive 3-2 win in Toronto, snapping the Maple Leafs’ long run of home-opening victories. The Canadiens followed that with a 6-5 overtime loss to Pittsburgh, but simply calling it a loss doesn’t tell the story.
Montreal trailed Pittsburgh 5-1 and somehow forced overtime, scoring twice in the final 68 seconds. That’s the type of comeback that can give a young team confidence even when it doesn’t result in two points. Through two games, the Canadiens have already shown that they’re going to be difficult to put away.
The concern Tuesday is what happens if Montreal gives Carolina the same kind of defensive openings it gave Pittsburgh. The Hurricanes are built to keep pressure on a team once they establish possession, and repeatedly asking the Canadiens to rally from multiple-goal deficits isn’t sustainable.
Carolina Hurricanes vs Montreal Canadiens Picks and Predictions
Pick: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline
Carolina is the side pick. Montreal deserves credit for its 1-0-1 start and Saturday’s comeback, but allowing Pittsburgh to build a 5-1 advantage is a warning sign heading into this matchup. Carolina is much more comfortable playing a structured possession game and should be able to create extended offensive-zone pressure. The Hurricanes getting their first victory Saturday also takes some of the early pressure off the defending champions.
Pick: Over 6 Goals
I’m taking the Over. Montreal has already scored eight goals in two games while allowing eight, and Saturday’s 6-5 result showed just how quickly its games can open up. Carolina is capable of controlling play, but Montreal has enough offensive confidence right now to contribute. A 4-3 type of game is very much in play.
Final Picks: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline and Over 6 Goals
