Colorado Avalanche vs Calgary Flames Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 8 2026
The Colorado Avalanche visit the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 PM ET. Colorado enters at 2-0 after an explosive start, while Calgary is 0-3 and still searching for its first point. The scheduling situation gives Calgary an advantage, with the Avalanche playing the second half of a back-to-back while the Flames have had three days off. Colorado’s Offense Has Been Relentless
Colorado couldn’t have started much better offensively. The Avalanche opened with an 8-4 victory over Los Angeles and followed it with a 6-1 win against St. Louis. That’s 14 goals through two games.
That production is particularly concerning for Calgary because the Flames haven’t shown they can stop anyone yet. Colorado doesn’t need a huge volume of chances when it is finishing at this level, and the Avalanche can quickly punish defensive mistakes.
The one concern is scheduling. Colorado is playing on consecutive nights, while Calgary has had three days to prepare. That’s enough to keep me away from an aggressive puck-line play, but it isn’t enough to make me fade the Avalanche outright.

Calgary Couldn’t Have Asked for a Worse Matchup
Calgary is 0-3 and has surrendered 16 goals. The Flames have already allowed six goals twice, and now they face a Colorado offense averaging seven per game.
The rest advantage is Calgary’s strongest argument. The Flames have been off since Sunday, while Colorado comes into Calgary immediately after playing Wednesday. That could become significant as the game progresses.
Still, rest doesn’t automatically fix the defensive issues we’ve seen. Calgary needs a dramatically better performance in its own zone to avoid another high-scoring defeat.
Colorado Avalanche vs Calgary Flames Picks and Predictions
Pick: Colorado Avalanche Moneyline
Colorado is the side pick. The back-to-back is enough to make me avoid laying -1.5, but the matchup itself strongly favors the Avalanche. Colorado is 2-0 with 14 goals scored, while Calgary is 0-3 with 16 allowed. The Avalanche also swept all three meetings last season by a combined 15-4. Calgary’s rest advantage should make the game more competitive, but Colorado remains the better moneyline play.
Pick: Over 6.5 Goals
I’m taking the Over 6.5. Colorado’s first two games produced 12 and seven combined goals, while Calgary has already allowed 16 through three. The Avalanche have enough offensive firepower to do most of the work themselves, and playing on consecutive nights could also make Colorado slightly more vulnerable defensively. A 5-2 or 5-3 result fits this matchup.
Final Picks: Colorado Avalanche Moneyline and Over 6.5 Goals
