Florida’s opener against Carolina looked like the type of game the Panthers have become comfortable winning. It wasn’t clean, it wasn’t low scoring, and it required overtime, but Florida still found a way to leave with a 5-4 victory.
That matters heading into Los Angeles because the Panthers don’t panic when games change personality. If Tuesday becomes a defensive battle, they can play that way. If the Kings force the pace and the game turns into a scoring contest, Florida has already shown this season that it can survive there too.
The biggest concern is the road setting. Los Angeles is never an easy place to play, and the Panthers can’t assume their ability to score will erase every defensive mistake.

The best route for the Kings is probably making this considerably less entertaining than Florida’s opener. Los Angeles doesn’t want a 5-4 game where the outcome comes down to which elite offensive opportunity gets converted last.
If the Kings can keep the game structured and force Florida to work through traffic, home ice gives them a legitimate chance. The question is whether they can maintain that approach for all three periods.
