Vancouver Canucks vs Carolina Hurricanes Picks and Predictions for Thursday October 8 2026
The Vancouver Canucks visit the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET. Vancouver enters at 2-2, while Carolina is 1-1-1 after a wild opening stretch. The Hurricanes return home after beating Montreal 6-4 Tuesday night, while Vancouver comes in with three days of rest. Vancouver Has Been Entertaining but Unpredictable
Vancouver’s 2-2 record doesn’t fully capture how chaotic its games have been. The Canucks have scored 19 goals through four games while allowing 18. That’s more than nine combined goals per night, and it makes Vancouver difficult to trust in either direction.
The offense is clearly capable of keeping the Canucks competitive. Scoring nearly five goals per game gives Vancouver a chance even when the defensive structure breaks down, and three days between games should help entering a difficult road matchup.
The concern is whether Vancouver can keep Carolina from dictating play. The Canucks have struggled badly defensively, and going into Raleigh against a Hurricanes team that just scored six creates an uncomfortable matchup.

Carolina Returns Home After an Offensive Breakthrough
Carolina’s 1-1-1 start has included plenty of offense and very little stability. The Hurricanes have scored 12 goals while allowing 13, and Tuesday’s 6-4 win over Montreal was their first victory of the season.
That result may be exactly what Carolina needed. The Hurricanes finally converted enough of their opportunities to overcome their own defensive mistakes, and Thursday presents another matchup against an opponent willing to play an open game.
Carolina is also back home, where its ability to control possession becomes more important. Vancouver’s offense makes the Canucks dangerous, but the defensive numbers give Carolina too many opportunities to exploit.
Vancouver Canucks vs Carolina Hurricanes Picks and Predictions
Pick: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline
Carolina is the side pick. Vancouver’s 2-2 start deserves respect, but the Canucks have allowed 18 goals in four games and now face a Carolina team coming off a six-goal performance. The Hurricanes haven’t been particularly sharp defensively either, but home ice and the matchup advantage against Vancouver’s struggling defensive structure are enough for me. I’ll take Carolina to build on Tuesday’s win.
Pick: Over 5.5 Goals
The Over 5.5 is one of my favorite total angles on Thursday. Vancouver’s four games have featured 37 combined goals, while Carolina has produced 25 combined goals through three. Neither team has demonstrated that it can consistently shut down opponents, and both offenses have already shown significant upside. Six goals is a modest target given how these teams have started.
Final Picks: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline and Over 5.5 Goals
